About this course

Neuropathies, whether painful, progressive, or frustratingly idiopathic are some of the most challenging and poorly managed conditions clinicians see. A surprisingly high, 25–30% of adults will suffer from some form of neuropathy in their lifetime. The prevalence rises steeply with age, metabolic dysfunction, medication exposures, and chronic inflammatory conditions. Yet the conventional approach too often stops at symptomatic relief.

In this practical and highly-clinical presentation, Dr Todd Born takes you far beyond symptom control. Drawing on extensive experience in integrative neuromuscular medicine, Dr Born shows you how to identify underlying drivers, perform a more precise diagnostic workup, and apply evidence-supported naturopathic and functional interventions that restore nerve health and improve quality of life.

If you regularly see patients with diabetes, chronic pain, metabolic disorders, autoimmune conditions, toxin exposures, GI dysfunction, or idiopathic neurological symptoms then you will find this session particularly valuable. This is an encouraging and insightful session that will expand your clinical confidence and improve outcomes for patients who often feel unheard, misunderstood, and untreated.
What you receive:
  • A personalised certificate of completion including continuing education hours
  • Clear protocol explanations from some of the world's top practitioners

From this course you will learn

  • How to identify the clinical presentation of different neuropathies—sensory, motor, autonomic, mono- and polyneuropathies
  • A comprehensive diagnostic algorithm, including blood work, electrodiagnostics (NCV/EMG), imaging, autonomic testing, biopsies, and when genetic testing is appropriate
  • How to recognise central sensitisation and its role in chronic neuropathic pain
  • How to investigate the major aetiologic categories: metabolic, autoimmune, infectious, toxic, nutritional, inflammatory, and microbiome-related
  • Which nutrient deficiencies meaningfully contribute to neuropathy (B12, E, B6, D, carnitine, etc.)
  • When to screen for heavy metals, tick-borne disease, EBV/CMV/HSV, coeliac markers, SIBO, and gut dysbiosis
  • How inflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction and microcirculatory impairment drive nerve damage
  • Evidence-supported nutrients, including ALA, NAC, acetyl-L-carnitine, CoQ10, biotin, citicoline, agmatine sulfate, EFAs, tocopherols/tocotrienols, vitamin D, and more
  • Botanical medicine for neuropathic pain: analgesics, anti-inflammatories, nervines, adaptogens and neurotrophic botanicals
  • When to consider hormones (DHEA, pregnenolone, oestrogen/progesterone/testosterone)
  • The clinical applications and cautions of phytocannabinoids and low-dose naltrexone
  • Effective dietary and lifestyle interventions including Mediterranean, anti-inflammatory and vegan/vegetarian approaches
