About this course

Glioblastoma multiforme is the most aggressive form of brain tumour with a median survival rate of approximately one year. Despite some current medical advances, survival rates have not improved for this tumour in three decades. This comprehensive presentation explores the progress of complementary therapies that may assist patients alongside conventional treatment.

Associate Professor Janet Schloss presents the latest research on complementary medicine approaches for glioblastoma, drawing from both in-vitro and clinical studies. This evidence-based discussion examines promising therapies including sea cucumber extract, medicinal cannabis, coenzyme Q10, boswellia, turmeric, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

Janet covers the current conventional treatments, ongoing clinical trials in Australia and New Zealand, and the mechanisms of action for various complementary therapies. With approximately 1,900 Australians and 80,000 people globally diagnosed with brain tumours annually, and very limited improvement in outcomes, this course provides essential knowledge for practitioners supporting patients with this challenging diagnosis.
