About this course

It appears that practically all systems of the body have their own regular rhythms. We know about the daily the circadian rhythms of cortisol and the monthly sex hormone cycles of women but there are many more and these can have significant diagnostic and therapeutic implications.

Catherine Darley is a naturopath, now based in Canada, with considerable expertise in sleep medicine which has circadian rhythmicity at its core.

In this fascinating presentation Catherine discusses the central and peripheral clocks and how they influence all systems of the body, especially our hormones. She will give you a clear understanding of the circadian rhythms of insulin, thyroid, pituitary hormones amongst many others.

Really interesting in this discussion is how these rhythms can become misaligned. Sometimes, the peripheral rhythm of a hormone becomes out of phase with the central (brain) hormone cycle which can lead to abnormal hormone levels and a wide range of conditions. Most of these cycles are regulated by the clocks that are entrained by our light/dark exposure, sleep and eating times. Catherine discusses the role of sleep and hormones and also how ageing affects these cycles.

This is a brilliant presentation and one that will certainly change the way you think about hormone regulation, sleep, anxiety, depression, thyroid hormone levels and much, much more.
