About this course

Puberty and early adolescence is a well-recognised period of significant physical, emotional and psychological upheaval, with estimates suggesting that up to 70% of families experience considerable challenges during this transitional phase. For most families, the onset of puberty for children aged 9 to 13 years represents a turbulent time when boundaries are tested, hormones fluctuate, and behavioural changes can be dramatic and concerning.

Dr Kimberley O'Brien is an Educational & Developmental Psychologist with extensive experience working with early adolescents and their families during this critical developmental period. She sees many young people struggling with the complex interplay of physical, emotional and social changes that characterise early adolescence.

In this presentation, Dr O'Brien details how you can identify and assess early adolescent behavioural concerns and determine appropriate treatment pathways. She spends most of the presentation detailing the many therapeutic options and practical interventions available for supporting young people and their families during this challenging time, and when and how each approach is most applicable.

This is a very encouraging discussion on the care of the many young people and families challenged with the complexities of early adolescent development and behaviour.
